Early Development Assessment

Understanding Your Child’s Development

Our Early Development Assessment supports families with concerns about their child’s development from birth to three years. Using the Bayley Scales of Infant and Toddler Development alongside clinical observation, we consider cognitive, language, motor, social-emotional and adaptive development.

Early identification can make a significant difference in helping children reach their full potential and participate confidently at home, preschool/daycare, and in the community.

Who Is It For?

An Early Development Assessment may be beneficial for children who:

  • Are not meeting expected developmental milestones
  • Are experiencing difficulties at preschool or daycare
  • Have challenges with communication, social skills, or behaviour
  • Need support with learning, attention, or emotional regulation
  • Have been referred by a GP, educator, specialist, or other healthcare professional
  • Would benefit from recommendations to support their development

Benefits of an Early Development Assessment

An assessment can help:

  • Identify your child’s strengths and areas requiring support.
  • Guide therapy goals and intervention planning.
  • Inform educational supports and accommodations.
  • Assist with referrals to other services when needed.
  • Provide families with practical strategies to support development.
  • Support applications for funding or additional services where appropriate.

What Happens During an Assessment?

The assessment typically includes and initial parent consultation, assessment sessions to observe skills and participation which can be completed in the clinic or home environment, depending on your child’s needs.

We identify strengths and areas where additional support may be helpful, providing practical recommendations and guidance on the appropriate next steps.
